Signs You Need Hyundai AC Maintenance at Your Hyundai Dealer
Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant is the gas used to chill air before it’s blown into your cabin. It’s pumped through the AC by the compressor, changing from gas to liquid and back to gas as it removes water from the air and cools it. As time passes, worn seals or physical damage to the AC from stones or other hard objects thrown up from the ground can cause a system leak.
As the AC loses refrigerant, the air blowing into the cabin will warm up. You’ll also hear strange noises from the AC as it tries to work with less refrigerant. The refrigerant is colorless and evaporates in contact with air, so we add a UV dye to it. Our technicians use a UV viewer to follow the refrigerant’s progress through the system until we find the leak. Once we repair the leak and refill the refrigerant, your AC will blow cold air again.
Musty Smell
During winter, your AC is switched off, waiting for the summer. This quiet period can cause bacteria or mold to enter and thrive in the still, damp, and dark AC ducts. It isn’t obvious when they arrive, but their presence becomes very noticeable when you turn on the AC in summer and an earthy, musty smell wafts from the ducts.
We fix this problem by adding a cleaning solution to the AC and running the system to flush the bacteria and mold away. It’s a quick process and the air will smell fresh and clean again.
Jammed Compressor Clutch
The compressor is the most important part of your AC system, as it compressors refrigerant and pushes it through the system. The compressor’s operation is controlled by its clutch, which starts and stops the compressor at set intervals. In time, the clutch can fail due to age or damage and cause serious trouble for the AC.
A compressor clutch that jams closed can’t move refrigerant through the system and your AC won’t work. If the clutch jams open, the compressor continues to run and eventually burns itself out. Our technicians will examine the clutch, and we can quickly replace it if needed, so the compressor will work correctly again.
